As mentioned by Mirror.co.uk, British IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon, who made a name for himself competing in America, was tragically killed during Sunday's Indy 500 race in Las Vegas.
Here's 10 things you need to know about the driver.
1. Dan was born on June 22 1978 in Olney, Buckinghamshire.
2. He took up karting in 1982 and in 1999 won the United States F2000 championship.
3. Dan was named Toyota Atlantic Rookie of the Year in 2000 and the following year won the CART Dayton Indy Lights Rookie of the Year award.
4. Dan made his IndyCar debut with Panther Racing in 2002 and in 2003 Dan was named IndyCar Rookie of the Year for Andretti Green Racing.
5. He finished second in the points standings during his 2004 season.
6. In 2005 Dan won the marquee Indianapolis 500 race, becoming the first Englishman to do so since Graham Hill in 1966. He went on to claim the IndyCar drivers' championship in his second full season.
7. Dan finished runner-up in the drivers' championship after a tie-breaker in 2006.
8. Dan married his long-time personal assistant, Susie Behm, in 2008. They had 2 sons: Sebastian and Oliver and lived in St. Petersburg, Florida.

9. In 2009 Dan finished second at Indianapolis 500 after starting from 18th and the following year he came second again.
10. Dan joined Bryan Herta Autosport after leaving Panther Racing in 2011 and in May this year he won the Indianapolis 500 to claim his first win on the circuit in three seasons.[source]
