1. Empress Myeongseong
Empress Myeongseong was the first wife of King Gojong of Korea. She was married to him at the age of 16 when the king was of 15 years. She was less interested in royal functions rather liked to studied books of men's interest like, history, philosophy, religion and science. At the age of 22, when the king was in full power, she was indulged with her husband in all political matters equally. To deal with modernization, she reorganized the government. Moreover she gave religious freedom which really upset the other political leaders and they decided to assassinate her. She was stabbed multiple times leading to death in 1895 leaving the King in distress.
2. Rabban Sauma
Rabban Bar Sauma was a turned diplomat, and Marco Polo of the East and of the Nestorian Christian faith. His mission was to embark a pilgrimage from Mongol-controlled China to Jerusalem but due to military unrest could not complete and stayed in Mongol-controlled Baghdad. He traveled a lot in an effort to fulfill his mission but could never succeed. He wrote a book regarding his traveling, giving a medieval picture of Europe for modern historians.
3. Nicolaus Steno
Known to be the father of geology and stratigraphy, Nicolas Steno is surprisingly infamous. He is said to be the pioneer of anatomy and geology. He refused to accept anything in books and decided to research about everything by himself. He discovered the Strata concept (successive layers of geological formations have fossil record of life in timely order).
4. Elisha Kane
Elisha Kane was a US Navy officer and member of two Arctic expeditions. It is said that his funeral was the second largest after Abraham Lincoln and largest in US history. His mission was to rescue the explorer John Franklin who vanished while attempting to chart and navigate the Canadian Arctic. The mission went unaccomplished. He died 1857 and his body was taken from New Orleans to Philadelphia, and during the entire journey on all the platforms they met by a memorial delegation.
5. Mary Anning
Mary Anning was the first paleontologist to correctly identify the first ichthyosaur skeleton. She made many discoveries in the field of fossils but remained infamous due to her sex and religious rebellion.
6. Cleisthenes
Cleisthenes was the father of Democracy who first introduced it to Greek city state in 508 BC. After he gained political power in Athens he started to develop major reforms which lead towards Athenian Democracy formation. He freed all the people, built a council for all people encouraging them to take part in government.
7. Jan Wn?k
Jan Wnek was a native illiterate carpenter of Poland but he was a naturally talented man. He studied the duck's wings phenomenon to know how they can fly. Then he made a glider and made a number of short flights with it. He gained fame in the surrounding towns but could not become very popular. He died during his an unsuccessful flight. He left no written records of his efforts and work.
8. Baldwin IV
Baldwin IV of Jerusalem became king at the age of 13 because he had contracted leprosy and people thought he would not live long. Despite suffering from leprosy he fought against Saladin and won most of the battles because he was wise and courageous. He ruled for eleven years successfully.
9. Pope Leo the Great
Pope St Leo the Great stopped the King of Huns, Attila, when he invaded Italy and threatened Rome. Pope met him personally and begged him to leave. King was so impressed by him that he simply left. Another achievement is writings on equality of all men and call for all to live in dignity.
10. Amazons of Dahomey
The Dahomey Amazon was all-female-military group of Dahomey kingdom. They were selected from king's wives and were hundreds of them. They were trained with tough physical exercises and discipline. They were also trained with weapons like knifes, rifles etc. Their commanders were also females. The French army lost many battles from them. The last member of this army died in 1979.
