During present days, due to media progress, natural disasters are highlighted while they have always been there in nature, causing famine, deaths and even destruction of whole civilizations. Here is the list of ten most disastrous events of earth.
1.  In 1925  the greatest tornado of the world recorded till now. It covered three states Missouri, Illinois and Indiana and travelled more than 350 km. It is unusual for such a tornado to occur but it was recorded and confirmed by the specialists. Almost 700 people were killed and more than 200 were injured. The disaster caused a property damage of $ 16.5 million dollars.

2.  In 1986 almost 1800 people and thousand of cattle and wild animals were found dead near the lake Nyos of Cameroon. The lake is situated at the center of an extinct volcano. When investigated by the scientists it was discovered that the deaths were caused by a huge cloud of CO2 released from the bottom of the lake. It moved at a speed of 50 km/hr and had a radius of 23 km. moving further the gas cloud caused the death of people and animals on the way.

3.  On June 30, 1908, a very high power air explosion occurred near the Tunguska River, Russia. The government does not seem to be interested in investigating this event rather; they took it as a divine warning. In 1938, aerial photographs of the venue taken by Kulik, showed it to be in a butterfly shape. This indicated two successive explosions in a straight line. Till today, no one exactly knows what happened there.

4.  In 1816, a cold spell hit the Northern United State, especially Canada and Europe. The phenomenon caused a great damage to crops resulting in food shortage. The cause of disaster was said to be Tambora volcanic eruption in previous years.

5.  The volcano of Krakatau had caused disastrous eruption at number of times but in 1883 it was most violent of the times. It damaged almost two-third part of the island and also few small surrounding islands. The sound was heard very loudly at even a distance of 3000 miles away. The dust of the explosion caused a so called blue-moon for almost two years.

6.  The usually harmless hail can become disastrous if it raises its size. In the spring of 1986 such a disaster hit the town of Gopalganj, Bangladesh where the highest rates of hailing were recorded. The particles weighed almost 1 kg and caused death of 92 people and destruction of crops.

7.  In 1902, due to the volcanic activity of Bald Mountain, atmosphere had a huge amount of ash  saturated with sulfur smell. This caused Bothrops lanceolatus, the poisonous snake species to leave their mountain house. They killed over 50 people and many pets. After that they were captured, finally and kept in houses in the city Saint-Pierre.

8.  During 1811-1812, a huge earthquake hit Midwest, which caused a huge geological disaster. Although not many lives were gone but there were huge cracks in the ground that reshaped the central region. The damage was extended to New England, Boston and Washington, DC. Till now, not much geological changes have been witnessed but they will take few years to appear.

9.  In the spring of 1972, Chandka forest of India suffered from a massive heat wave causing the local elephants to get frenzy due to lack of food and water. When the situation continued to summer, the elephants panicked and caused stampedes on five villages on their way causing 24 deaths and destruction of the paths.

10.  This disaster is not so natural but still affected a great deal of people. In December 1952, a huge fog wave hit London, causing people to burn more coal in order to reduce cold and heat their houses. This caused the smoke pollution to trap in the fog. In four days, the fog became so thick that it was impossible to drive. Even concerts were cancelled as audience could not see the stage. 4000 people died that month due to respiratory problems and almost 8000 in the next month. The disaster promoted the London people to adopt Clean Air Act in 1956 and making people aware of the affect of environmental pollution.
